1. A contender for Song of the Year, and we still haven’t heard the studio version. This is a video from one of the best shows of SXSW 2012, Mess With Texas, which we reviewed hereLocal Business out 10/23 on XL Records.

  2. Long Island emo punkers Bomb the Music Industry! may have just announced their indefinite hiatus from touring, but they’ll keep making music, according to songwriter and bandleader Jeff Rosenstock. This is a good thing, since last year’s Vacation widely expanded their reach by embracing the thematic concept record format and creating a standout work about “finding a home.”

  3. The Men are just too good. That’s why Open Your Heart is our #4 Album of the Year (So Far). We also attended Pitchfork Music Fest, and wrote about it.

  4. Mitt Romney agrees: Soup is Good Food!

  5. The Men at SXSW, Wednesday night for the Sacred Bones showcase. This was undoubtedly my favorite show of the weekend. They killed it, blew my mind and eardrums to pieces. If you haven’t heard Open Your Heart or Leave Home yet, do yourself a fucking favor.

  6. Click to download Titus Andronicus’ newest mixtape, featuring their new single “Upon Viewing Oregon’s Landscape with the Flood of Detrius”. Thank you punk gods.

Not new, but who knows — maybe you had to go to the dentist on that interday.
Here is the entire series by Mike Joyce and below is a description of his project:
“swissted is an ongoing project by graphic designer mike joyce, owner of stereotype design in new york city. drawing from his love of punk rock and swiss modernism, two movements that have (almost) nothing to do with one another, mike has redesigned vintage punk, hardcore, and indie rock show flyers into international typographic style posters. each design is set in berthold akzidenz grotesk medium, all lowercase. every single one of these shows actually happened.”

Ahhhhh. Something rad to look at on a day off, no?

  8. Ceremony debut their new video for “World Blue”, the second single off the upcoming Zoo, to be released next month on Matador Records. The video, clocking in at less than two minutes, features live shots of the band and fans, solidifying their reputation as one of the best live bands around. Read our review of their (Le) Poisson Rouge show here.

  9. “It’s an album drenched in violent lust and strung out on speed. The scene is always a seedy one, evoking images of back alley drug deals and ravaged motel rooms. The subject matter is undeniably dark, as singer Jigmae Baer details vampiric sex scenes and murder fantasies with an icy detachment that makes the album feel that much steamier. On occasion, Cox’s withdrawn persona crumbles and the man sounds positively demonic. Think Al Pacino in Devil’s Advocate without Keanu Reeves ruining everything.”
Tim Myers comes in to discuss the newest album from Royal Baths, Better Luck Next Life, and the seduction of American excess.

  11. OBN IIIs - If The Shit Fits

Stumbled upon this Austin blues punk band today at Permanent Records in Chicago. The record is The One and Only on Tic Tac Totally. Recommended if you ever find yourself asking where rock ‘n roll went.
