A late entry to our favorite emo albums, in conjunction with our review of Cloud Nothings’ Attack on Memory, is Jets to Brazil’s Orange Rhyming Dictionary. Released in 1998, Orange Rhyming Dictionary marked a shockingly tender shift from main songwriter Blake Schwarzenbach, formerly of Jawbreaker. Interested in approaching songwriting in a more holistic and approachable manner, Schwarzenbach disbanded the revered Jawbreaker, and broke emo ground. Many come to remember Perfecting Lonliness as his crowning achievement, but the barebones feel of Orange Rhyming Dictionary is what gets me every time.
